Is it a noseeum, no-see-em or a no-see-um?

So how so you properly spell ‘noseeum?’ Are they only called a noseeums in Florida or does the bug has different names in different regions?

Good questions and we had to do some poking around ourselves and here is what we came up with.

Noseeums are part of the Ceratopogonidae family and are also referred to as biting midges or sandfly. According to Wikipedria, noseeums are in the family of biting midges. Other common names in the US and Canada include no-see-ums, punkies or sand fleas.  So yes, different regions may refer to the  no see um bug by a different name.  They are most commonly called no-see-ums or noseeums in Florida

So what is the proper spelling of noseeum? There really isn’t a right or wrong way to spell it. All of the following are acceptable

  • no-see-um
  • no see um
  • no see em

Regardless of how you spell it, all no see um bugs are still blood sucking insects. And our no see um repellent will definitely make you outdoor events way more comfortable.
