The Zika virus is related to dengue, West Nile virus and yellow fever. Symptoms can include fever, rash, joint and muscle pain, red eyes and can take several days to develop after being exposed . The Zika virus is transmitted by female Aedes mosquitoes, but can also be spread through sexual contact and blood transfusions. It is of particular concern because it could cause birth defects. Pregnant women should avoid visiting destinations mostly in the Caribbean, Central America and South America
